I love the feeling of a well fitting outfit with details and fabrics I won’t be able to find in a store. My designs are sometimes driven by a particular function, sometimes by a particular fabric, or I have multiple design elements I want in the same garment, but can’t find it anywhere. I design and create clothes for myself and others so we can all have the feeling of loving how we look in clothes that make us feel good and do the things we want them to do. I believe we can feel this way about our clothes regardless of our body size, shape, or proportions.

I believe in slow fashion. Often we have pieces we have loved to shreds, and with a little more love they can have an even longer life. When buying vintage and thrifting, I alter and resize pieces to fit their new owner. I patch, embroider, and alter clothes as life makes itself known in the fabric or as needs change over time. The fashion industry is the 3rd largest polluting industry in the world - reviving old clothes can help prevent usable clothing and fabric from the landfill.

I also believe in accessibility for all to have their clothes fit well regardless of class or finances. Custom and customized clothing is expensive - when we are used to the prices of mass produced clothing, a bill for the full cost of materials and labor at an equitable rate can be staggering. My hope is to offer my services at a sliding scale in a range that is equitable and comprehensive for the skill and labor I offer. As a working artist, I want to both serve my peers and to make a livable wage - a hard balance to strike. When working together, we can find a middle ground that makes these projects and services as accessible and equitable as possible, for both you and me.

repairs, alterations, commissions

- waxed canvas jacket - commission -
I do commissions, repairs, and alterations on request. Some examples of each:

Repairs:

small to large holes, worn or ripped, usually repaired by patching, darning, and machine or hand stitching. visible or invisible, embroidery or sashiko on request.

Alterations:

resizing (especially pants) by taking them in or letting them out and hemming. adding or taking away design elements (pockets, hardware, or replacing sections with different fabric and/or different design).

Commissions:

let’s dream together! often people approach me with an idea they have had for an item they have been wanting in their lives and we discuss how we can bring it to life. sometimes people have an article of worn clothing that they would like recreated with some new elements included or in a new fabric. we meet to talk about your idea, then I draw it out and give an estimate on materials, time, and overall budget. once we agree, then I get measurements and work on putting it together; as we go I may reach out for a fitting or with additional questions as they arise in the creation process.
